Microsoft Teams Gets Key Features on Mobile

Microsoft recently rolled out two big updates to the mobile apps for Teams on Android and iOS. The company is reportedly getting ready to launch a new freemium version of the service to take on Slack sometime soon, and it’s been adding a lot of new features over the last week to possibly prepare for the launch of the new freemium version.

The latest updates for Teams on Android and iOS brings key new features to the apps, which have been behind the desktop app in terms of functionality. The new update finally lets users create new teams and add members to teams using the mobile app, for example. You can also now mute certain conversations to avoid getting spammed, and the company is also bringing the voicemail functionality to the mobile apps with this week’s update. Microsoft is also bringing calling to all x86 Android devices with the new update.

Functionality wise, Microsoft Teams’ mobile apps have always been quite minimalistic. The apps were incredibly basic when Microsoft first launched the service in general availability, though the company has been working hard on adding some important features to the apps over the last few months. Combined with the recent introduction of support for any email account for guest accounts, the new mobile app updates are possibly taking us a step closer to the launch of the new freemium version of Teams.
