Xiaomi Mi A1 special edition in red color launched in Indonesia

Xiaomi has announced a new special edition Mi A1 in red color in Indonesia. The smartphone seems to be exclusive to the Southeast Asian nation and the Chinese smartphone maker hasn’t shared any details on whether it plans to bring it to other market as well.

Xiaomi Mi A1 was launched in September as a collaboration between the Chinese company and Google. The Mi A1 ditches Xiaomi’s MIUI in favor of Android One and delivers stock Android experience in an entry-level price point. The Mi A1 is a rebranded version of company’s Mi 5X smartphone available in China and the company had recently launched a red variant of Mi 5X in its home market.

The official poster for the smartphone on Xiaomi’s local website reveals that the handset comes with red back cover and sides while the front bezels remain black like other model. With the addition of red variant, the Mi A1 is now available in four colors including black, gold and rose gold.

As far as hardware internals are concerned, Xiaomi is not offering any change. The smartphone sports a 5.5-inch Full HD LCD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and 16:9 aspect ratio. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and a pixel density of 401 ppi.

Under the hood, there is Qualcomm’s octa-core Snapdragon 625 chipset coupled with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage. The Mi A1 also supports expandable storage up to 128GB via hybrid SIM slot. Apart from stock Android, the Mi A1 also feature dual rear camera setup as one of its unique selling point.

The Mi A1 features dual 12MP rear cameras with one 26mm standard lens and secondary telephoto lens with focal length of 50mm. The primary lens uses 1.25 micron pixels with f/2.2 aperture and supports 4K video recording at 30 frames per second. The secondary lens uses smaller 1 micron pixel size and has f/2.6 aperture. Xiaomi has also included a 5MP selfie shooter with 1080p video recording support.

On the connectivity front, the Mi A1 offers WiFi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.2 with A2DP, GPS, FM Radio and 4G VoLTE support. It includes a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and is backed by a 3,080mAh battery. The Mi A1 uses USB Type-C port for charging and supports Qualcomm’s Quick Charge technology for fast charging.

The Mi A1 was launched with Android 7.1.2 Nougat but has started receiving Android 8.0 Oreo update via beta channel. The smartphone also received a permanent price cut and now retails for Rs 12,999 in India.
