Following reports in July, AdAge has today claimed Apple has started trialing Google DoubleClick ads with the Apple News platform, stating publishers such as Condé Nast, Gannett, Time Inc., CNN and other media partners have been in talks with Apple for months about changing the technology behind the ads in the popular news app.
Speaking with AdAge, one publisher said “Apple is just starting to do more for monetization. - We’re starting to get excited about it, but can only design and develop ad inventory for Apple News once we have the right pipes in place.”
It appears Apple is finally looking to make Apple News as profitable to publishers as their own website, ditching the Apple-controlled system used now which requires publishers to have a paid Apple Developer account before placing adverts on their channel.
While Apple hasn’t officially commented on the Google DoubleClick partnership, publishers part of the trial say a public roll-out could launch before the end of the year.
