It’s been two years since NASA’s research spacecraft, New Horizons, zoomed past Pluto on its never-ending voyage into space.
To celebrate the milestone, and to take advantage of the data and photos NASA collected along the way, the agency released a new video on Friday showing Earth-bound viewers what it would be like to fly past Pluto’s surface.
The video is just a model, so not actual video footage, but it’s pretty cool nonetheless. The only bummer is there’s no audio - I’d recommend Elton John’s “Rocket Man” or R. Kelly’s “I Believe I Can Fly” if you want some soothing, appropriately themed background tunes.
The video shows everything from ice plains to mountain ranges, and was created using “data and digital elevation models” that NASA collected during New Horizons’s fly by. (NASA explains more specifics about what you’re seeing in the summary below the YouTube video.)
