Coimbatore to get piped gas lines to more than 9 lakh households

The construction of the 'City Gate Station', a natural gas reserve station, has been completed and opened as a key feature of the project to distribute gas to 9 lakh households in Coimbatore by pipeline. Coimbatore: The Central Government's Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board has approved a scheme to distribute piped gas to 9 lakh 12 thousand 783 households in Coimbatore district.

Indian Oil (IOC) officials said the project to start pipeline distribution of gas to households in the Kurichi and Malumissampatti areas would begin by the end of this year. Apart from these, 273 CNG has been allocated for the distribution of vehicle gas in the district. The stations are also scheduled to open. So far 10 stations have been launched.

Storage Center Opening The 'City Gate Station' and 'Mother Station', the natural gas storage center for all these, are being built at Pichanur, Coimbatore. Natural gas demand the plant has the capacity to handle 13,000 cubic meters of gas per hour. It will meet Coimbatore's natural gas demand by 2025. Natural gas is brought to the center from the Kochi terminal. Nanavare, Director (Pipelines), Indian Oil, inaugurated the City Gate Station Natural Gas Reserve at Pichanur.

41 centers by next year!

Indian Oil Coimbatore Manager Suresh says, The reserve center will enable uninterrupted availability of natural gas for homes and vehicles in the Coimbatore district. By next year, 41 natural gas distribution centers will be opened in Coimbatore. It is planned to make natural gas widely available to vehicles, further reduce prices and open additional CNG and online stations, ”he said.

Gas prices will go down!

Oil company officials say the price of gas will come down when the scheme of piped gas distribution to households in Coimbatore is implemented. They point out that with the opening of the City Gate Station in Coimbatore, the price of natural gas has been reduced by five rupees (Rs.79.17 per kg).
