In Coimbatore, a private bus driver attacked a government bus driver and all the government buses were stopped at the Gandhipuram bus stand and all the drivers were involved in a scuffle.

Coimbatore: The private bus No. 45, which was heading towards the Vellamadai from Coimbatore, entered the Gandhipuram city bus stand yesterday. Private bus drivers Santosh and Venkatesh went and hit government bus driver Karthik badly. The injured Karthik has been admitted to the Coimbatore Government Hospital and is receiving treatment.

When this information reached fellow government bus drivers, they parked their buses at the bus stand and all the drivers and conductors were involved in the scuffle demanding the arrest of the private bus drivers. This caused a stir and up to about 50 buses were not operating. Thus the public suffered. There was also a stir as government bus drivers from other areas converged.

The Kattoor police who came to know the information talked to the bus drivers and appeased them. The drivers abandoned the protest after police said they would take appropriate action. Meanwhile, the Kattoor police have registered a case against the private bus driver and two conductors who attacked the government bus driver and arrested 3 of them.
