60 wards to get 24-hour drinking water - Minister Nehru launches a slew of projects in Coimbatore

In Coimbatore, the inauguration ceremony of 9 projects that were completed at the cost of Rs.5.59 crores and the launch of 263 new, future-oriented projects that carry an estimated value of Rs.49.62 crores was held at the Coimbatore district corporation office.


Coimbatore: A 24-hour drinking water project was launched in 60 wards of Coimbatore yesterday.

In Coimbatore, the inauguration ceremony of 9 projects that were completed at the cost of Rs.5.59 crores and the launch of 263 new, future-oriented projects that carry an estimated value of Rs.49.62 crores was held at the Coimbatore district corporation office yesterday.



Speaking on the occasion, Municipal Administration Minister Nehru said: ‘The construction of 715 tarred roads at various locations in Coimbatore is underway at the cost of Rs.196 crores. Along with them, 237 new road works worth Rs.26.35 crores have been initiated. A joint effort to build 63 urban centers at the cost of Rs 16 crores is in the works.

The project is designed in a manner that allows water to automatically climb up to the third floor. 20.50 crore has been set aside to carry out this project.”

A photo exhibition was held at the Coimbatore corporation to showcase the achievements of the DMK government during the past year. 18 persons were issued work orders on grounds of compassion. The corporation’s one-year achievements pamphlet has been released.



Electricity Minister Senthil Balaji presided over the event. Key figures such as the Corporation Commissioner Rajagopal, the Additional Chief Secretary Sivadas Meena, the District Collector Sameeran, the Mayor Kalpana, and the Pollachi MP Shanmugasundar among others attended this event.



Minister Nehru also inspected the work done at Valankulam and Customs. The garbage depot will be cleaned!



“Steps will be taken to meet with the concerned contractor soon and complete the project without any complaints and bring it to public use. To link the major roads such as Puliyakulam-Sowripalayam road, Avinashi road, and SNR road, a budget of 144 crores has been set aside. A power plant is to be set up in Coimbatore to clean up the Vellalore landfill. Officials have visited Hyderabad regarding this. 16 acres have already been cleared through ‘bio mining’ in Vellalore. It has been decided that large-scale biomining will be implemented in the conjoining areas of the Vellalore landfill” the minister added.
