In Coimbatore Big Bazaar street area TK Market was operating for the past several years, small traders have been setting up roadside stalls selling vegetables and fruits shops in the market bidders protesting, the previous AIADMK government had promised to set up shops in vacant lots in the area.
But as the election was announced before the shops were handed over to the traders and the regime change took place, a notice was issued on behalf of the Coimbatore Corporation to take the shops through tender.
With this announcement they insisted that their shops (88-shop merchants) would not be available to them and that the Chief Minister should provide them with the shops allotted for them. In this context, the Vegetable Small Traders Association had announced that they would be walking with their families from Coimbatore to Anna Samadhi in Chennai today to meet the Chief Minister.
As announced today, the police arrested those who tried to walk with the family from near the Coimbatore Anna statue and took them to a private hall.
Before carrying out the march they carried banners and raised slogans emphasizing his demand.
They also urged the Chief Minister to fulfill their demand.
