Coimbatore MP PR Natarajan hoisted the red flag at the Marxist Communist office in Gandhipuram here and flagged off the may day celebrations.
Addressing the labourers, MP PR Natarajan said that the working class in the nation are subjected to immense oppression. And, Marxism is the only way out to save the labourers to claim their rights. On this May day, lets remember the innumerable sacrifices of the labourers, he said.
The first celebration of Labour Day in India took place in Chennai on May 1, 1923. organised by Singaravelu Chettiar, the leader of the Labour Kisan Party of Hindustan. Back then, the first 'May Day’ celebrations was held in two places — one at a beach opposite Madras High court and the other at the Triplicane beach. Hence this year marks the centenary celebration, MP PR Natarajan noted.
"Today the country is facing a major crisis. And, the working class is being subjected to massive exploitation. The working class does not have to face these crises. The labourers must firmly beleive in Marxism, for it will reclaim their lost rights. Because Marxism is not a scripture it is a social science. Marxism will win. Even earlier, Marxism has succeeded in confronting all forms of caste, religious and military repressions against the working class" he added.
Hence, the working class should work with more vigor to strengthen the left-wing movement, the MP urged in his speech.
The event was chaired by party organizing committee member N. Jayabalan, Marxist Party State Committee Member C. Padmanabhan, CITU District Treasurer R. Velusamy, CPM East City Council Secretary, N. Selvaraj and CITU Hotel Association Head, Santosh and many others took part.
