The victims complained that the fraudster had looted them of Rs.10 lakhs or more, by showing fake documents and claiming to be employed in the railway sector.
Coimbatore: Several victims who had been hoodwinked by a fraudster have lodged a complaint with the Coimbatore Municipal Commissioner of Police seeking action against the fraudster for the issue of fake documents by claiming to be employed in the railway sector.
Sreejith (28), a B.Tech graduate hails from Sankarapuram in Villupuram district. In 2018, he arrived in Coimbatore in search of work and visited New Job Placement Service. a private employment agency in the Siddaputhur area. Muruga, an employee there reportedly told Sreejith that the Railway Department was looking to hire a ticket inspector but the job would cost him Rs.6 lakh. To convince Sreejith further, Muruga seems to have shown him some documents that listed the different candidates who got a job through him. Believing this, Sreejith borrowed money and gave Rs.6 lakh to Muruga.
A few days later, Muruga took Sreejith to Kolkata saying that he had got a job in Kolkata and could join the service after completing his training. On reaching Kolkata, Muruga reportedly handed over a Central Railway Department identity card to Sreejith. Muruga also told Sreejith that training for the job would be done for Sreejith by different people within the confines of the room itself. Thereafter, Muruga left and Sreejith was left staying alone in the room. Every day, it is reported that someone would come to his room and train him on how to work in the railway sector.
After a period of time, Sreejith who had not been paid, not joined the regular workforce nor signed any of the attendance registers for work contacted Muruga and asked him the reason behind such a training arrangement. He then continued to deceive Sreejith claiming that he was making arrangements to relocate to Tamil Nadu. He then summoned Sreejith and sent him back to his hometown stating that he needed the signature of the Village Administration Officer. Later, in spite of Sreejith trying to contact Muruga on his phone, the latter was unreachable.
Thereafter, an enraged Sreejith lodged a complaint against Muruga with the Villupuram police. When Muruga was questioned by the police, he reportedly said he would return the money. But after repaying a small amount, Muruga again refused to answer his phone. Subsequently, the inquiry revealed that Muruga had already cheated several others from Villupuram by defrauding them of Rs.10 - Rs.11 lakh. Following this, all the victims have lodged a complaint with the Coimbatore Municipal Commissioner of Police.
The victims have demanded that stern action be taken against Muruga who has allegedly defrauded them of money by issuing fake work orders, including identity cards of a Central Railway employee. In another similar complaint, a woman from Villupuram who was also a victim filed a petition carrying her child, alleging that she had been cheated of Rs.4.5 lakh for a job vacancy in a Central Government Hospital.
