Acting on the orders of the Tamil Nadu police to take strict action against those selling ganja in the name of Operation 2.0, the police are conducting a search operation across Coimbatore district.
On March 30, Jaganathan (41), a native of Nilakottai in Dindigul district, was arrested by the police while he was selling ganja behind the Karuppasamy temple in Kattoor. They also seized 7,255 kg of ganja and a two-wheeler from him, produced him before a court and sent him to jail.
The Assistant Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner of Kattoor range in Coimbatore recommended that Jeganathan be kept in custody for one year under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Jaganathan was subsequently detained for a year on the orders of city police commissioner Pradip Kumar.
