The Railway Police seized 63 kg of ganja and arrested the 39-year-old man on the Shalimar to Thiruvananthapuram Express on Tuesday morning while conducting an inspection in Coimbatore.
Coimbatore: The Railway Police seized 63 kg of ganja being smuggled on the Shalimar-Thiruvananthapuram Express on Tuesday by a man from West Bengal and arrested him even as the train arrived in Coimbatore.
Operation 2.0 has been implemented in Tamil Nadu upon the orders of DGP Sylendra Babu to curb the peddling and abuse of drugs. Accordingly, the police are actively engaged in curbing the smuggling and sale of ganja and gutkha across Tamil Nadu. As part of this, the Railway Police are conducting a series of checks on trains from northern states to Kerala via Coimbatore.
A team of police led by the Coimbatore Railway Inspector Sivagami Rani, including Sub-Inspector Raman conducted a search on the Shalimar-Thiruvananthapuram Express, which was arriving in Coimbatore after 10 am on Tuesday.

The Inspectors found ganja packets under the 12th seat of the D1 coach.

Susilmunda (39), a native of West Bengal was arrested for smuggling ganja and taken to the Coimbatore railway police station for questioning. On investigating him, it was discovered that he had brought the ganja to sell in Coimbatore and Kerala.

Following this, the police arrested him and seized 63 kg of ganja from his possession.

They are also investigating to find out for whom he had smuggled the ganja.
