22-year old student of PSG-IMSR in Coimbatore dies by suicide

The 22-year-old student hung herself to death on Monday in her college hostel room.


Coimbatore: A fourth-year medical student of PSG Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (PSG-IMSR) in Coimbatore died by suicide at the college hostel room on Monday.

In a tragic incident, Nandini, the daughter of Venkatavardhan who hails from Vanuvampet in Chennai ended her life by hanging herself in the hostel room at about 11.30 am on Monday. According to the police, she reportedly hung herself after slitting her wrist using dissection blades.

The parents of the girl who were informed about the death flew to Coimbatore from Chennai and visited the girl's hostel room to claim her body. The girl's body was then sent to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for autopsy. The Peelamedu Police have registered a case and are conducting a thorough investigation of the suicide to ascertain the exact cause behind the suicide.

The police do not suspect any foul play behind the death of the girl, and it is understood that she had been under treatment for depression.
