Tamil actor Sivakumar, who was the Chief Guest at the felicitation held in Sulur for the TN Government Award recipients, stated that Periyar, never hated or discriminated Brahmins but the ideologies and their practices were scorned.

Sulur Tamil Sangam in Coimbatore felicitated N. Gowthaman and Sulur Kalaipithan, who received the Government of Tamil Nadu Award. The function was presided over by Sulur Town Panchayat President Devi. Actor Sivakumar was the chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that Sulur has a lot to do with the principle of self-respect. He said Periyar had not insulted those who believed in God and even refused to sit parallel to Kundrakudi Adigalar when he was seated.
Sivakumar said that Periyar hated the dominant forces, that he hated brahmanism and not hate the brahmins. Similarly, Periyar advised the DK workers and gave protection to Kanchi Periyavar when he was blocked by the DK workers during his visit to Mylapore.
