The police have arrested a middleman for duping Rs 12 lakh on the pretext of getting the post of chairman of the Tamil Nadu Housing Board.
Coimbatore:A middleman has been arrested in Coimbatore who cheated his acquaintance of Rs 12 lakhs promising to fetch him the post of Chairman in Tamilnadu Housing Board.
Mathivanan, 60, a native of Kamaraj Road in Coimbatore, runs a coaching centre. He is also a member of the Lok Janshakti Party. Mathivanan made friends with Rangan, 49, of Arivoli Nagar a few years ago, who was a member of the same party.
Rangan was in the business of obtaining house deeds and making money. Reportedly, Rangan offered Mathivanan the post of chairman of the Tamil Nadu Housing Board, for which he demanded Rs 12 lakhs.
Mathivanan also paid the cash in four installments, believing Ranga, but was dodged without offering the post, and when Mathivanan tried meeting him, he still did not offer the money.
Mathivanan lodged a complaint with the Kuniyamuthur police. Based on the complaint, the police registered a case and arrested Rangan for allegedly accepting Rs 12 lakh on the pretext of getting him the post of chairman of the board. He was later produced in court and sent to jail.
