Coimbatore City Police raided an elderly woman's house where the gutkha was stored as groceries by a native of Rajasthan.
Coimbatore: Coimbatore City Police seized one tonne of banned gutkha in Coimbatore from a native of Rajasthan and arrested him.
Based on the information, that a large number of banned gutkha items were being sold in Coimbatore, the police conducted intensive searches across the district upon orders from the District Superintendent of Police, P Badri Narayanan.
Ramesh Kumar, a native of Rajasthan was found to have stored one tonne of gutkha items banned by the Tamil Nadu Government under the pretext of storing groceries in the house of an elderly woman living alone in Periya Kuyili, in Chettipalayam. Following this, the police seized the 1 tonne of gutkha items and arrested Ramesh Kumar.
During the investigation, it was revealed that he had smuggled gutkha from Rajasthan and had stashed it in Coimbatore for retail sale. District SP Badri Narayanan is personally investigating the illegal hoarding of the gutkha items.
