The demonstration was against the rise in prices of ink, paper, chemicals, plates and demanding for the import duty on boards to be reduced and export to be completely banned.
Tirupur: The Tirupur Master Printers Association held a demonstration in front of the Tirupur Kumaran Memorial on Wednesday demanding to control the rise in prices of paper, cardboard, plate, chemical and ink.
The knitwear industry in Tirupur has been flourishing whereas the prices of paper, plates, chemicals and inks required for the manufacture and export of hosiery have gone up drastically, thereby affecting the livelihood of those in the printing business.
Hence, the Master Printers Association held a demonstration near the Tirupur Kumaran Memorial with a large number of people participating in the protest and raising slogans. The agitators demanded for the import duty on cardboards to be reduced and export to be completely banned to increase the internal trade.
