The Coimbatore city police, following the Chennai Police department has requested for drone surveillance in Coimbatore and are expecting an order with regard to it in the upcoming assembly
Coimbatore: The Coimbatore city police are expecting an announcement at demand for grants in assembly for facilitating drone surveillance in coimbatore.
The Chennai Metropolitan Police has decided to use drone cameras to keep an eye on areas including the Marina and major bazaars. A request has been made for this purpose and orders have been issued. A further provision of Rs.3.6 crores has been made. Police will carry out surveillance of the drone at nine important locations in Chennai.
"This will be useful in monitoring and preventing crimes that take place at important political gatherings and public places," he said. Meanwhile, the city police have decided to use a drone unit in Coimbatore, following Chennai. A recommendation to this effect has been sent to the Government of Tamil Nadu. The announcements are expected to be made during the demand for grants in the Assembly on May 5.
A drone camera can be used to track particularly important events and monitoring by drones are much easier than being directly monitored by guards. Since drone surveillance has already been implemented in Mumbai, Delhi and other states, the drone units are expected to be operational for Chennai and Coimbatore soon.
