The forest department at the Gopinari in Periyanaickenpalayam imposed a fine of Rs 15000 each to six people who allegedly snatched a deer which was trapped and dead in a barbed wire fence. They chopped it off into 6 portions.
Coimbatore: Six people including 5 women were imposed a fine of Rs 15,000 who ruthlessly chopped off a dead deer into pieces near Periyanaickenpalayam in Gopinari region of Coimbatore.
A male spotted deer that escaped out of the forest area in the patta land in Jambukandi, Anaikatti in Gopinari division of Periyanaickenpalayam forest range in Coimbatore. It is alleged that the deer was possibly chased by a dog.The deer, which tried to escape from the dog, got stuck in the barbed wire fence, after which it died.
Reportedly, Murugan (48), Sivagami (38), Shanti (37), Valli (29), Sindhu (28) and Sivagami (48), all natives of Anaikatti, labourers working on the land, chased the dog away, released the dead deer from the fence and chopped it down to 6 portions for meat.
A team comprising Gopinari division forester Madhusudhanan, forest guard Kumar, Annamalai, forest guard Murugan and anti-poaching guards, who received the information, intercepted the six and seized the deer meat and head.
A fine of Rs 90,000 was also imposed on the six of them at Rs 15,000 each on the orders of District Forest Officer Ashok Kumar.
