Coimbatore: To commemorate the 131st birth anniversary of Dr.B.R. Ambedkar, an "Equality Day" pledge was administered at the Coimbatore Corporation Office, on Thursday.
Making the announcement regarding the celebration of Equality Day to honour Dr BR Ambedkar, on Wednesday, TN CM MK Stalin said that a pledge will be administered on that day for all.
He added that the decision to celebrate the day was put forth in a State Vigilance and Monitoring Committee Meeting held on Tuesday on behalf of the Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare Department. The day will be observed as Equality day, like how Periyar's birthday is observed as 'Social Justice Day'.
Accordingly, Chief Minister M K Stalin garlanded the portrait of Dr. Ambedkar at Ambedkar Manimandapam in Chennai and took the Equality day pledge. Similar, pledges were being taken across all government offices, today, April 14.
At the Coimbatore Corporation office premises, the pledge ceremony was presided over by Dr. M Sharmila, Deputy Corporation Commissioner.
Assistant Commissioners --Saravanan, Annadurai and Sundararajan, Corporation Town Welfare Officer, Satheesh Kumar, Town Planning Officer, Karumathal, Assistant Executive Engineers, Corporation officials and staff took part in the ceremony.
