Free cervical cancer screening camp, cooking contest, rangoli and vintage car show mark Day 4 of Coimbatore Festival

The finale of the cookery competition 'Chef's Plate' at the PSG College of Arts and Science campus witnessed participants amazing the judges with rare dishes made from the mystery boxes they had received.



Coimbatore: Day 4 of the Coimbatore Festival witnessed various events including free cancer screening, cooking contest and rangoli which delighted the public.

The 'Coimbatore Vizha' as the festival is called, has been gaining attraction among the public. On the fourth day of Coimbatore Vizha, G Kuppusamy Naidu Hospitals organized for a a one day 'Free Cervical Cancer Screening Camp for Women' to build awareness among the public of the disease. Women between the ages of 30-60 years were screened. Dr. Senthil of the 'Coimbatore Vizha' team thanked the GKNM Hospital for their contributions to the festival week.

Kikani Global Academy (KGA) joined in to celebrate the spirit of Coimbatore colourfully, with the theme ‘Rangoli across the world’ which depicted culture from various parts of India and the world. Vedic rangoli patterns to African tribal art were beautifully brought to design by students with the guidance of their teachers. To add colours and fervour to the event, the students were dressed in line with the competition's theme. Neil Kikani and Abhilasha from the Young Indians team graced the event and motivated the children by sharing the spirit of Coimbatore. Pradeep, Trustee addressed the students and affirmed their individuality. Shalini Nair, Principal, welcomed the Coimbatore Vizha team and thanked them for their support for all activities since 2021. ‘Coimbatore’ was celebrated colourfully at KGA's competition.

Cherishing the heritage of Coimbatore's agriculture sector, Agri-business Karthik Ram and Mehul Mehta of 'Coimbatore Vizha' team in association with TNAU’s Agri-business Development Department briefed the Tech Business Incubator platform and took the participants on a tour to the exhibit of various agri-startups. The event highlighted all aspects of uplifting the farming community from different parts of the state.

Celebrating the home cooks of Coimbatore, 'Chef's Plate' was organised at PSG College of Arts and Science. 20 home cooks had registered for the event led by Sejal Shah (Yi). The virtual first round had innovative dishes like spaghetti kichidi and idly burgers and was judged by Vinny Shukla and Sumithra Rajesh.



10 finalists were selected for the mystery box challenge held on April 12 at PSG College of Arts and Science. The Final Jury were Shreeya Adka - Founder, French Door, Vinny Shukla - Finalist, Tamil Masterchef, Sumithra Rajesh, Top 6 Tamil Masterchef contestant. 'Coimbatore Vizha' Chair Nishit Shah, Co-chairs Abishek Kalro and Avanthika Raghu were also present at the event.

The events planned for Day 5 of 'Coimbatore Vizha' include Paralympics which makes its debut at the grounds of Nehru Stadium between 10 am and 5 pm on Wednesday. As many as 100 children from in and around Coimbatore, aged between 5 and 18 with various physical and intellectual impairments are participating. The contest will also witness 50 adult para athletes participating in various games like Discus Throw, Javelin Throw, Shot Put, Wheelchair Race etc. Four teams of men and women are also participating in a sitting volleyball competition on the same day.

The Rotary Coimbatore City also presented a Classic and Exotic Car Show on Wednesday at the Cosmopolitan Club on Race Course Road in Coimbatore. Over 40 Classic and Modern exotics cars were on display at the Cosmopolitan Club car park, with the event being flagged off by the District Collectior, G S Sameeran at 8 am.
