Coimbatore: Roadshows are underway in Coimbatore and Tirupur to throw light on opportunities for micro, small and medium enterprises in the Defence sector.
‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat Defence & Technology Expo - Empowering MSMEs’ is to be held at the Chennai Trade Centre Complex between May 26 to 28 this year. As a precursor to the event, the Swatantra Foundation along with Laghu Udyog Bharati, Tamil Nadu, TANSTIA with support from Tirupur Exporters Association (TEA) have organized roadshows in Coimbatore and Tirupur, in which over 100 industries participated.

Similar roadshows will also be held in Madurai, Hosur, Trichy, Salem and Chennai in the following 2-3 weeks. At the roadshows, opportunities for MSMEs in Aerospace and Defence sectors, and the relevance of the Expo in light of the ongoing Government initiatives in indigenisation are being discussed. Opportunities arising out of the Defence Corridor in Tamil Nadu and the support offered to MSMEs by TIDCO were also highlighted to the audience during the roadshows.
Wing Commander P Madhusudhanan, Vice-President (Aerospace & Defence) from TIDCO addressed the Coimbatore roadshow, while Capt. T M Tabish Rizvi from the Directorate of Naval Procurement, Naval HQ Delhi were the special invitees at the Tirupur roadshow. The Convenor of the Defence & Technology Expo, S Ramasubramanian briefed the participants about the Expo, its objectives and A&D sector opportunities. Laghu Udyog Bharati office bearers and Expo-organising team members,Hariharan Ramamoorthy, the National Vice-President,M S Vijayaraghavan, the State President, Thirunavukkarasu, the State Vice-President, M Sivakumar, the State Joint General Secretary and C Kumar, the State Secretary participated and addressed the gathering.

S Surulivel, the State Vice-President from TANSTIA and R Senthil Kumar from Tiruppur Exporters Association also participated in the roadshows and addressed the participants. The ‘Defence & Technology Expo - Empowering MSMEs’ is being organized by Swatantra Foundation, coinciding with the major indigenisation initiative of the Ministry of Defence under the ‘Aatmanirbhar in Defence' program, which is the latest initiative announced on April 7 through the third Positive Indigenisation List for 101 items, which will be progressively banned for import.
