Coimbatore: The Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam staged a protest near the Red Cross Society in Coimbatore condemning the Tamil Nadu Government's property tax hike and price rise of essential commodities.

The Tamil Nadu Government's decision to increase property tax has been receiving opposition from various quarters stating that the sudden hike will affect the public. DMDK Deputy General Secretary, A S Akbar led a protest in Coimbatore supported by over a 100 people. At the demonstration, slogans were raised condemning the State and Central Governments.

A novel protest was staged by the DMDK cadres who set up gallows and erected essential commodities like two-wheelers, gas cylinders, maida etc. on the gallows. The cadres also condemned the State Government for increasing property tax hike, and slammed the Centre for hiking prices of fuel and LPG.
Coimbatore District Unit secretaries Dandapani, Singai Chandru and Sivaraman addressed the protest.
