Coimbatore City Police Department held an intense raid in and around the city on Sunday, on the orders of DGP Sylendra Babu to nab those involved in illegal ganja sale.
Coimbatore:11 cases were filed and 13 offenders were arrested on a single day in 'Operation Ganja 2' conducted by the city police in Coimbatore, on Sunday.
Quickly acting on the directions of Tamil Nadu DGP Sylendra Babu, police are conducting intensive searches across the State under the mission 'Operation Ganja 2. Coimbatore Police launched a massive search operation at various places across Coimbatore city, on April 10.During the operation, 11 cases were registered on a single day and 6 kg of ganja was seized. A total of 13 people were arrested in the bust, across the city.
The arrested offenders are Kalidas (22) who was involved in the sale of ganja in R S Puram area where the contraband and a two-wheeler were seized from him, Surendran (26) who was involved in the sale of ganja in Periyar Nagar area and arrested by the Rathinapuri police, Gautham (27) and Gunasekaran (29) who were trying to sell ganja near the Rathinapuri post office.
The Ramanathapuram police also arrested Madan Kumar (24) and Babu (25) who were trying to sell ganja on Nanjundapuram Road in Ramanathapuram, and Kannan who was involved in the sale of ganja near Puliyakulam. Selvapuram police arrested Thirugnanam (51) who was selling ganja near Mariamman Temple Road in Selvapuram, Coimbatore.
Podanur police also arrested Manikandan (32) who was selling ganja near the Noyyal river railway bridge in Nanjundapuram. Similarly, the Kuniyamuthur police arrested Riyazuddin (33) who was involved in selling ganja inside a TASMAC shop in Kuniyamuthur. The Singanallur police also arrested Abis (27) who was involved in the sale of ganja near Singanallur bus stand, and Athithan (20) who was involved in the sale of ganja near SHS Colony. The Saravanampatti police arrested Muneeswaran (25) who was involved in selling ganja near Keeranatham in Saravanampatti.
A total of 13 people were thus arrested on a single day, imprisoned and contrabands meant for sale were seized.
