The GST Pathayathra, organized by the Tamil Nadu Congress Human Rights Wing, will be a 550-km, 18-day journey from Coimbatore to Chennai urging Union govt to bring fuel under the GST tax framework and reduce the price of cooking gas cylinders.
Coimbatore: The 550-km GST Padhayatra by the Tamil Nadu Congress Human Rights wing will be from Coimbatore to Chennai. This will be held for 18-days with 56 Congress members.
The statement issued by the Tamil Nadu Congress stated:-
Coimbatore, April 7, 2022 - The Tamil Nadu Congress, on behalf of the Human Rights Department, will hold an 18-day GST walk with 56 comrades, 550 km from Coimbatore to Chennai, urging Center to bring petrol and diesel prices under the GST tax framework and reduce the price of cooking gas cylinders.
The GST Pathayathra, led by Tamil Nadu Congress Human Rights Minister Mahatma Srinivasan, will begin on April 11 near the Coimbatore Red Cross Building at 10 am.
Economic awareness among the people during the walk was about bringing petrol and diesel prices into the GST tax framework, urging them to reduce the price of cooking gas cylinders, levying higher GST on essential commodities and services that are being overused by the people, and lowering the GST on luxury goods and services.
Tamil Nadu Congress Committee Chairman KS Alagiri is about to launch the GST Pathayathra and give his greetings. During the program, Dinesh Gundu Rao, MLA, AICC National General Secretary and in-charge of the Tamil Nadu Congress Party, Srivalla Prasad, AICC National Secretary and in-charge of the Tamil Nadu Congress Party, Ku.R. Manokaran, Treasurer - Tamil Nadu Congress Committee, and Mayurajayakumar, Acting Chairman, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee, will preside over the inaugural function of the walk, which will be attended by senior leaders and executives of the party.
Tamil Nadu Congress Media Department Head Gopanna will give the welcome note and launch the walk.
Also present at the event will be Tamil Nadu Congress Committee Leaders, Congress MPs and MLAs, Congress Leaders and Members of the Tamil Nadu Local Body, former Parliamentary and Legislative Congress, Senior Leaders of the Congress Party, Congress volunteers and the general public.
The 18-day GST walk will start from Coimbatore, pass through Tirupur, Erode, Salem, Aroor, Sengam, Polur, Arani, Seiyaru, Kanchipuram, Sriperumbudur and Poovirunthavalli and on April 28 the walk will end at 4 pm in Sathyamoorthy Bhavan, Chennai.
According to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who pointed out that the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi has a 56-inch chest, the Congress has a 56-inch heart.
Due to the misguided economic policies of the ruling BJP government in the middle, the prices of petrol, diesel and cooking gas are rising rapidly today. As a result, small and medium enterprises, large corporations, traders, farmers, fishermen and the general public continue to be severely affected.
The only solution is to bring the price of petrol and diesel within the GST tax framework.
Currently, people pay about 52% tax on the price of petrol and diesel they buy. Although the excise duty levied by the Central Government, the VAT levied by the State Government and the dealer commission and freight charges set by the State Government, it is now imperative that these taxes affect the economy of the country and the general public.
When petrol and diesel prices come under the GST framework, the maximum tax on GST will be only 28%. Thus petrol and diesel are likely to sell for only about half the current price.
Earlier, the Tamil Nadu Congress, led by Mahatma Srinivasan, on behalf of the Human Rights Department, had successfully cycled 900 km from Chennai to Kanyakumari for 12 days with 56 people condemning the Modi-led regime amid rising petrol, diesel and cooking gas prices.
In mid-2019, the Tamil Nadu Congress party leader, senior leaders of the party and comrade party leaders led a massive hunger strike near Chennai Valluvar Kottam against the ruling Modi regime.
