World Health Day; CII, Young Indians leaders from 57 cities sign a pledge to build healthier cities

On the occasion of World Health Day, the Confederation of Indian Industry and Young Indians signed a pledge, to create a better, healthier tomorrow, a view that focuses on 'Healthy Me, Healthy Children, Healthy Community



Coimbatore: On the occasion of World Health Day, the Confederation ofIndian Industry and Young Indians signed a pledge, to create a better, healthier tomorrow that will focus on creating healthier lifestyle for an individual, and in turn the community

On World Health Day, leaders from across India in the presence of WHO Regional Advisor promoted a healthier tomorrow through a structured health plan.

Yi as a young leader’s organisation has stated that the pandemic in the last two years has brought out the need for good health, and the disparities of not maintaining it. The organization, calling themselves having the responsibility to focus on the matter,by taking Nation Building a serious factor.

Raunak Goyal , National Chair, CII Young Indians said that the signing of the CII Young Indians Pledge for Health , is their commitment to leverage the network with CII as a parent body and the various partners associated. "Yi has an inherent ability to implement, learn & scale. Our varied stakeholders Members, Youth, Children and Rural will ensure comprehensive coverage of our initiatives”, he said.

As conscious and responsible citizens, CII- Young Indians has been in the forefront, championing and leading responsibly through various initiatives in the past few years during the COVID19 pandemic. The CII –Young Indians Health Pledge, focussed on the need for a healthier tomorrow, with efforts on Healthy Me, Healthy Children and Healthy Community. The pledge was signed by the chapter leaders representing 57 cities in India from Chandigarh to Thoothukudi and Vadodara to Mizoram, in the presence of Hussain Rasheed, Regional Advisor, Water Sanitation and Climate Change, World Health Organisation for South-East Asia

Key Call to Action from CII – Young Indians Health @ 2025 plans includes:

1.Active Living - Promote Active Lifestyles to reduce obesity, we would look to build access to Parks / Fitness arenas & promote Sustainable Food Practices

2.Bridging Health Inequity - Our focus at Yi will be Preventable and Treatable illnesses control by strengthening Primary health centres & effective outreach levering technology & innovations

3.Child & Adolescent Health – We will work on eliminating malnutrition & obesity among children. Focus on age appropriate vaccination and also look at mental health wellness to help eliminate addiction.

Sharing the regional perspective of health, Rasheed, Regional Advisor, Water Sanitation and Climate Change, World Health Organisation for South-East Asia, emphasised, “It is important for us to reimagine and work for a world where clean air, clean water & food are available to all ensuring health is a right. The past 2 years have reinforced the need for us to understand the global impact climate change can have on each of our lives. If we aspire for a healthier tomorrow, we have to start acting today.”

"This pandemic demands of us a leadership style that is not only impactful but also transformational." Shri Kumaravelu, Chair of Young Indians Coimbatore, further added, “We are proud to participate with leaders from Yi across India and the representative of the WHO regional office. We pledge to work for a healthier city working with the Government, NGOs and HealthCare organisation and hope our city is among the ranking of healthy cities of the world by 2030”.

As Young Indians (Yi), a movement for Indian Youth, the Yi Health Plan for 2025, puts a structure to the activities across Yi. They added that this will help them learn from leaders, scale and sustain activities through collaboration and also measure outcomes more systematically to ensure healthier years ahead for them and the future generations.

 

Young Indians (Yi) is a movement for Indian Youth to converge, lead, co-create and influence India’s future. Yi, formed in 2002 as an integral part of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), has created a platform for young Indians to work towards realizing a dream of a developed nation. Yi has an inclusive membership across its pan-India 57 city chapters network comprising over 4000 direct members, who represent young progressive Indians between the age group of 21-45 years comprising entrepreneurs, professionals, and achievers from different walks of life and Yi stakeholders which include 30,000 YUVA college students, 3,29,839 school children and 118 rural communities across the country.
