Standing Committee meeting on Education, parks and playgrounds held in Coimbatore

A meeting of the Standing Committee on Education, parks and playgrounds was held in Coimbatore led by the Corporation Commissioner, Raja Gopal Sunkara, in which discussions on providing psychological counselling to students were held.

A meeting of the Standing Committee on Education, parks and playgrounds was held in Coimbatore led by the Corporation Commissioner, Raja Gopal Sunkara, in which discussions on providing psychological counselling to students were held. Deputy Mayor R Vetrichelvan, Corporation Deputy Commissioner M Shamila and Standing Committee Chairman for Education, Parks and Playgrounds N Malathi took the lead.



The meeting focused on improving the quality of education of corporation schools, take steps to ensure 100% occupancy in corporation schools in 10th and 12th standard public examinations, provision of infrastructural facilities including adequate toilet facilities according to the number of students in the school. Further plans on imparting training to the students in reading, writing and understanding of what they have learnt, and providing training to the students for their future goals were spoken of.

In order to encourage them to reach the desired aim, steps shall be taken on behalf of the Corporation administration to take them to the respective work oriented places and provide the students work-based explanations and the methods of achieving the goal. The meeting also made a point that the students, teachers and parents will be provided counselling, and necessary help will be provided to rectify the psychological changes that have occurred among the students due to the learning gap that occured in the pandemic as schools were closed, due the excessive use of existing technological tools.

Further, for the upgradation of Corporation parks and playgrounds, the standing committee members along with the corporation officials conducted a field inspection and made recommendations. To inculcate the habit of savings among girls, 4701 girls below the age of 10 years studying in corporation schools, steps have been taken to annex the Selvamagal Savings Scheme and 1470 girls have been enrolled till date. Measures to annex the rest of the girls in the scheme will also be taken, the meeting assured.

The review meeting was attended by City Engineer Ramasamy, Corporation Education Officer K. Pandia Rajasekar, East Zone Executive Engineer Jayalakshmi, Director of Corporation Zoo, Standing Committee members, all Zonal Assistant Commissioners, Councillors and Corporation officials.
