After 24 years, the three special squads have been formed to nab the two accused who are absconding in connection with the serial bomb blast that occurred in Coimbatore on February 14, 1998.

Coimbatore: Three special squads have been constituted by the SID of Central Bureau of Investigation to nab two of the elusive accused who have been absconding for 24 years ever since the series of bomb blasts occurred in Coimbatore, February 14, 1998.

58 people were killed and more than 200 injured in a series of blasts that took place at 11 places across Coimbatore city. While 168 people, including Al Ummah leader Basha and Mohammad Ansari were booked in connection with the incident, 14 were convicted by a special court in connection with the Coimbatore bomb blast cases.

With the photographs obtained from the families of Mujibur Rahman alias Muji and Sadiq (a) Raja (a) Taylor Raja (a) Valarndha Raja who were involved in the case, in 1998, the CB-CID Special Investigation Division is trying to trace the accused who are still absconding. Though a series of cases of murder were registered against the two in Madurai, Trichy and other areas, the duo are reportedly in hiding till date.

The Special Investigation Division (SID) of the CB-CID has formed three special squads, one each in Coimbatore, Trichy and Madurai districts. While searches have already been carried out in Kerala, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, the special squads have decided to conduct the investigation again by pasting pamphlets and posters containing photographs of the accused in these states.

The police have announced a reward of Rs.4 lakhs (2 lakhs for each of the accused) for anyone providing a tip-off about the two men.
