Start-Ups Academy debuts in Kongu region

The Academy also aims to kick-start the start-up ecosystem and contribute to the growth and stability of start-ups in the region.

Coimbatore: The Start-Ups Academy, a non-profit organization, is organizing a start-up competition to recognize and tap into the talents of start-ups in the Kongu region.

The Start-Ups Academy promoted by passionate and experienced professionals and entrepreneurs aims to guide, enable and mentor budding innovators to move to higher levels. The Academy also aims to kick-start the start-up ecosystem in the Kongu region and contribute to the growth and stability of start-ups in the region.

The Start-Ups Academy has launched the event named 'Start-Up Dhuru' that will award and recognise the most eligible start-ups (3 of them), a separate category for women-led start-ups and one scaled-up start-up. The award ceremony will be held on April 30, 2022 at Radisson Blu with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman as the Chief Guest. Padman Muruganandam Arunachalam launched the event.

Founder-President G Karthikeyan opined, "The Start-Ups Academy believes that the event will encourage and motivate the entrepreneurs to pursue their goals with more vigor and enthusiasm. The Academy plans to conduct various events that will disseminate information and knowledge in the sphere of start-up ecosystems. India has the third-largest start-up ecosystem in the world after U.S and China. A record 44 Indian start-ups achieved unicorn status in 2021. We grew from just 733 start-ups in 2016-17 to 14,000 in 2021-22 which is a remarkable jump in a mere six years. Most start-ups of course are in the IT/Knowledge-based sectors.

Many companies known by their brand names benefited from funding and saw substantial growth in the last decade, becoming household names including the ride-hailing company Ola, Digital payment service Paytm and online food app Swiggy, to name just a few. It goes without saying that Tier II cities therefore lack start-up expertise in terms of adequate guidance and support for new entrepreneurs grappling with multiple challenges. The Start-Ups Academy hopes to provide the necessary guidance and support on various fronts including establishing training for entrepreneurs in marketing, strategy, funding and finance.”

He added that the Government at both the Central and State-levels support start-ups through various policies in recognition of the fact that they generate employment and are harbingers of creativity and innovation.

"However, in view of the economic impact of the pandemic and the problems caused by frequent lockdowns and disruptions, start-ups need strong pillars of support from both the Government and private sectors. The region of Coimbatore is known for its entrepreneurial spirit and has produced many successful entrepreneurs," concluded G Karthikeyan.

Eligible start-ups can register through the website www.thestartupsacademy.org or through the contact numbers 9614940910 or 04224529255.

The office-bearers of the Academy are G Karthikeyan, President who was earlier the President of TiE Coimbatore, Dr. Selvakumar, Vice-President, Rajinikant, Vice-President, Venkatesh, Secretary, Adarsh, Joint Secretary and Shrinivas, Treasurer.
