1240 households in areas like Telungupalayam and Jayaramannagar are being provided with drinking water 24 hours a day. Water distribution and frequency of supply are monitored using live monitoring.
Coimbatore: All areas in Coimbatore Corporation which are being supplied with drinking water are being monitored through 'Live Monitoring,' according to Gopal Krishnan, Chairman, 24-Hour Drinking Water Project Management Advisory Committee.
In 2018, the Coimbatore Corporation handed over the 24-hour drinking water project to a French company called Suez. While the scheme is being implemented only in the old Wards of Coimbatore, there is currently no clear information on the status of the newly-added Wards. Moreover, various doubts about the lack of drinking water supply have been lingering among people. Work on the project is still incomplete in some areas, including the old Wards. People are increasingly complaining that the drinking water supply is not being evenly distributed to the Wards.
For the first time in Coimbatore Corporation, a 24-hour drinking water scheme was introduced only in the areas under the 76th Ward. Of these, 1240 households in areas like Telungupalayam and Jayaramannagar are being provided with drinking water 24 hours a day, under the 24-hour drinking water scheme.
In this context, Gopal Krishnan, Chairman of the 24-hour Drinking Water Project Management Consultative Committee stated that steps are being taken to monitor the supply of drinking water through 'Live Monitoring' and ensure all areas are equally covered. He added that through the 'live monitoring,' the number of hours that drinking water is distributed to the areas under the Corporation of Coimbatore and the number of times that drinking water is distributed in a day are being monitored.
