There has been a traffic disruption at Selamanallur near Thondamuthur in Coimbatore as eight government buses were blocked by the public to protest against the inaction of transport officers, in operating buses less frequently in the region after 10 am, affecting the public who are commuting
Coimbatore: The locals in Thondamuthur, Selamanallur blocked roads and stopped government buses not letting them operate. This has caused a heavy traffic disruption
More than 10,000 families live in Thondamuthur, Narasipuram and Devarayapuram villages in Coimbatore. People use buses daily for commuting to school, college,business and work. Since there are two colleges functioning in Thondamuthur areas, two buses are operated at 7 and 9 am with the college working hours.
However, buses do not ply on time after 10 am, people wait for a long time and return home disappointed and sometimes walk. It appears that despite repeated complaints to the traffic zone manager, no action has been taken. Angered by this, school and college students and the public stopped a government bus coming to Selamanallur in Thondamuthur and blocked the road.
This caused a stir there, traffic was disrupted as buses were not let to be run by the public. Thondamuthur police reached the spot and held talks with the public. But the public are picketing saying that they will disperse only if officers arrive in person and promise to provide a solution.
