Coimbatore: Police arrested the SDPI activists who tried to gherao a theatre screening Kashmir Files movie at Brookfields Mall inCoimbatore.
The recently released Kahmir Files movie has instigated discontent among the minority groups in India as the movie depicts the Muslim persecution of Hindu pandits. Many tried to create ruckus all over the nation, and requests were made not to screen the movie in Coimbatore as it was sowing 'separatism' among people. Reportedly more than 100 people led by Coimbatore District SDPI district secretary Hussain staged a protest demanding a ban on the screening of Kashmir Files at the theatre in Brookfield Mall in North Coimbatore.
They shouted slogans demanding a ban on the screening of Kashmir Files. More than 100 police personnel were deployed to prevent any untoward incident.
SDPI district president Mustafa, general secretaries Abdul Qader and Mohammad Issaq, treasurer Iqbal, vice-president Shivakumar, Shahnawaz, SDPI spokesperson Mansoor and party functionaries participated in the agitation. The police arrested them and took them to a private hall.
It is noteworthy that the Prime Minister Modi had also reached out to the Director and Actors of the film "Kashmir Files" and congratulated them.
