The Coimbatore District Collector, Dr. GS Sameeran danced with the tribals at an awareness meeting on social rights held in Coimbatore.
An awareness meeting on community rights was held in 26 forest villages under Sembaraipalayam, Nellithorai, and Velliangadu Panchayats in Sethumadaj Tribal Village under Mettupalayam Semparaipalayam Panchayat in Coimbatore.
The Collector Sameeran chaired the meeting, which was attended by 19 Grama Sabha Committee Leaders and Members.
In order to welcome the District Collector, the tribals danced to the tunes of their traditional music. To the onlookers surprise, the District Collector danced along with the tribals, which escalated their happiness, infusing a sense of oneness. This made all the people from the tribal community and government officials happy.
The meeting focused on creating awareness among the villagers about basic amenities required for hill villages including Anganwadis, public roads, hospitals, land required for temple use, providing community rights, and promoting occupations such as collecting honey, picking sticks, improving the economy of forest villagers in forest areas, and conserving the forest.
The meeting was attended by the District Forest Officer, District Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare Department, Ranger, Divisional Officer Tahsildar, and others.
