Coimbatore: The Social Welfare Department organized cultural programs at the District Collectorate here on Thursday, 31st March, on the occasion of World Transgender Day.
Cultural programs were organized at the district Collectorate in Coimbatore on Thursday, 31st March, on the occasion of World Transgender Day. The Social Welfare Department organized cultural programs that included dance, rangoli, elocution competitions, fashion parade, and singing competitions for members of the transgender community in the district at the Collectorate.
More than 10 members of the transgender community participated in the event dressed in traditional attire and performed a parade and dance. An elocution contest was also held on the theme 'Let Transgenders Live'. More than 50 transgenders participated in the event. The members of the transgender community also put forward their demands to the officials. They also alleged that they were facing problems in getting various government schemes.
The program was held in the presence of District Social Welfare Officer, Thangamani, and Mahila Project Director, Chandra.
