Coimbatore: Nurses who were appointed temporarily at Coimbatore GH during the Covid pandemic period laid siege to the Coimbatore Collectorate on Thursday, demanding that their three-month salary be paid immediately.
Over 50 nurses who had been working in the Covid-19 ward of the Coimbatore Government Hospital had submitted a petition at the District Collectorate on Wednesday, seeking an extension of their work tenure and immediate payment of their three-month salary arrears. The nurses had tears welling up in their eyes even as they lamented their plight.
Since the nurses were unable to meet the Coimbatore District Collector, G S Sameeran on Wednesday since he had left to attend a Government function, the nurses arrived at the Collectorate on Thursday morning and laid siege. They staged a sit-in protest at the Collectorate seeking immediate attention to their demands.
