The Madukkarai police seized about 20.6 kg of gutka items banned by the Tamil Nadu Government that was hoarded near Madukkarai Palathurai in Coimbatore and arrested a grocery store owner.
Coimbatore: The Maddukkarai police arrested a grocery store owner in Coimbatore for hoarding 20.6 kg of banned gutka products.
The police received information that banned gutka was being sold in large quantities in and around Madukkarai, in Coimbatore. A search was done of all small shops in the Madukkarai Palathurai area. The search squad recovered gutka products from a grocery shop in Palathurai near Madukkarai. The owner, Sivanandam (47), fled the scene as soon as he saw the police search team. He was chased down by the police and nabbed, and 20.6 kg of gutka was also seized from the shop. The police arrested Sivanandam and produced him in court, and sent him to jail.
Similarly, during a raid conducted by the police led by Sub-Inspector Saravanan in K K Chavadi area, 18 kg of banned gutka items were found hoarded in a small shop in the area. Sivakumar (47), a native of Palakkad in Kerala was arrested and sent to jail.
