The State Minorities Commission consultative meeting was held in Coimbatore at the District Collectorate auditorium, which was chaired by State Minorities Commission Chairman Peter Alphonse, who stated that the social peace, will contribute towards the economic growth in Coimbatore.

A minority counselling meeting was held under the chairmanship of State Minorities Commission Chairman Peter Alphonse at the Collectorate auditorium in Coimbatore.
District Collector Sameeran, Corporation Commissioner Rajagopal Sunkara, Superintendent of Police Badrinarayan and other government officials participated in the meeting.
Peter Alphonse said that the State Minorities Commission is holding consultation meetings in various districts as per the orders of the Chief Minister. At the meeting, 6 beneficiaries received free sewing machines, 27 people were given financial assistance of Rs.2.77 lakh on behalf of Muslim Women's Aid Society, 23 people were given financial assistance of Rs.6.83 lakh on behalf of Christian Women's Aid Society, and one beneficiary was given loan assistance of Rs.7 lakh.
"Five districts will get their Minorities Welfare Authority this year, and the Authority for Coimbatore will be appointed by the Chief Minister, who will work under the District Collector. Stating that the demand of most minorities is that places of worship should be allowed, he said the demand has been brought to the notice of the Chief Minister and the Chief Minister has instructed the District Collector to take action against those who are responsible for religious clashes.
The District Collector and the Superintendent of Police assured that there would be no hindrance to the people praying at their homes or in some separate place, at the same time the minority people not to put up loudspeakers disturbing social peace." He said the economy of the Coimbatore district will grow when there is social peace in the district. He also criticized some people for trying to disturb communal harmony and create religious divisions among the people.
Peter added that the Chief Minister had warned them that this was a Dravidian model of rule and not a Gujarat model of rule. Demands for basic amenities, schools and a bank in the areas inhabited by minorities in the meeting held on Wednesday, and the District Collector and the Commissioner of Corporation would take steps for the same. The union and state governments have a plan to be implemented for the minority communities and some areas where minorities live are left out of the schemes to be implemented by the union government.
Replying to a question on the issues in burying the bodies of the deceased, he added that the electric crematorium and the burial ground were common to all and those entering the place should leave behind their religious identities and that is the intention of the Chief Minister. "Those who want to perform rituals on the basis of religion can own and operate a grave at their own expense," he said. He ended saying that various schemes are being implemented for students, women and others under the Minorities Commission.
