The Government of Tamil Nadu has taken steps to ensure that power generation was not halted for the whole of last week, and the move has elated all power producers who lauded the move.
Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu Government's move to not suspend power generation has left power producers overjoyed. With the wind season having begun from March 15, the Electricity Board took over the entire power generation of 'Grid Curtailment' without withholding power generation.
Renewable energy, including solar and wind, plays a vital role in meeting the growing demand for electricity. In Tamil Nadu, the wind power generation unit has the infrastructure to help generate 8,000 MW of power. The Government usually advises a suspension of power generation for a few days when electricity is generated annually during the wind season. This results in waste of energy even if there is a possibility of generating more power.
Wind power producers have been consistently urging prevention of 'Grid Curtailment' in Tamil Nadu. The Government of Tamil Nadu has thus taken steps to ensure that power generation was not stopped for the entire last week which was welcomed by all power producers.
Kasthuri Rangaiyan, President of the Indian Wind Power Producers Association (IWPA) said, "Renewable Energy is a noble resource that does not pollute the environment and is not harmful to humans or any other living being. There is an opportunity to generate electricity in various varieties including natural sunlight and air. In the past, 'Grid Curtailment' in the windmill season was present for a few days, and hence wind power producers always demanded that such curtailment ought to be completely stopped."

Hugely appreciating this move of the Government of Tamil Nadu, Kasthuri Rangaiyan hoped that this would continue in the coming days. "Doing so will give you the opportunity to generate a lot of electricity through wind. With the onset of summer, windmills will help in uninterrupted supply of electricity in line with the increasing demand in the coming days." he assured.
