Trade unions have launched a two-day all-India general strike on March 28 and are protesting against the Central Government. Trade union workers picketed in the Madukkarai market area of the Kinathukadavu constituency.
The protesters condemned the Central Government for depriving the working class of its legal rights that were won sacrificially by fighting for four generations. Slogans were raised against the Central Government for taking away workers' rights, destroying the public sector, acting in support of private sectors, implementing laws that are anti-labour and anti-peasant.
More than 100 people including G Murugesan, M Marudachalam, D Chiranjeevi Kannan (INTU), M Gunasekaran (AITUC), K R Thangaras, G P Sakthivel (CITU Union), V P Elangovan, M Panchalingam, HMS G Chitra and many others participated in the protest. The police arrested all of them and lodged them in a nearby marriage hall.
