Lending support to Bharat Bandh 80 percent of buses off the road in Coimbatore

The joint forum of trade unions announced a nationwide bandh on 28 and 29 of March, and on day 1, about 80 percent of the buses have stopped operation in the city.



Coimbatore: The trade unions are on a nationwide bandh today, 28th March, and close to 80 percent of buses are off the roads in the city on day one.

The joint forum of trade unions have called for a nationwide strike for two days, 28 and 29th of March 2022, to press for their various demands, including the center's move to privatize public sector undertakings, the anti-worker policies, and to stop the Modi government from implementing these plans.

The strike being upheld at Coimbatore has the participation of the government transport employees, insurance department employees, and bank employees. Buses that operate in areas including Ukkadam, Sungam, Koundampalayam, Pollachi, Mettupalayam are not operated due to the complete strike. This has resulted in up to 80 percent of the buses off the road on day one, 28th March. Only 20 percent of buses are operational.



Similarly, the roads look deserted as auto drivers' association is also participating in the strike, here. The trade unions will stage road blockades at central post offices, Gandhi statue and important bus stands in 10 assembly constituencies of Coimbatore South, Pollachi, Valparai, Goundampalayam, Mettupalayam, Sulur, Coimbatore North, Singanallur, Kinathukadavu and Thondamuthur and the bank employees are also participating in the strike today.

Police security has been deployed in various parts of Coimbatore in view of the road blockade.
