Nine persons including an AIADMK's son has been arrested in the attack of DMK councillor's husband, in the clash between DMK and ADMK parties at the indirect elections in Vellalore Town Panchayat.
Coimbatore: Nine members including a AIADMK member's son have been arrested in the attack of DMK Councillor's husband in Vellalore.
Police have arrested nine persons, including the son of an AIADMK Town Panchayat President, for assaulting the husband of a DMK councillor in the clash during the indirect election for the President and Vice President of Vellalor town panchayat in Coimbatore.
Indirect elections were held for the post of President and Vice President of Vellalore Town Panchayat in Coimbatore. Before the elections began, when DMK-AIADMK councillors visited the Vellalore Town Panchayat office, and a clash broke out between both the parties on Saturday morning. Following this, the police resorted to lathi charge.
The 4th ward DMK Councillor Gunasundari's husband suffered an injury in his skull. Parthiban, Rajendran and others were also injured. A complaint was lodged by the DMK, Sabari Priyan, Karikalan, KarthikRaja, Manoj Kumar, son of Vellalur Town Panchayat President Marudachalam, Kumaresan, Ragupathi, Shanmugam, Soundararaj.
Nagaraj and nine others were booked under seven sections including 147, 148, 341, 342, 324, 506/2 and the Prevention of Atrocities on Women Act.
They were also produced before a judge and sent to jail.
