Coimbatore: DMK candidate, Kokila won the post of Town Panchayat Vice President in Thitumalayampalayam town panchayat.

The DMK candidate Kokila won in the indirect election for the post of vice-president of Thirumalaiyampalayam town panchayat in Coimbatore, the party celebrated by bursting crackers in front of the town panchayat office.

Of the 15 wards in Thirumalaiyampalayam town panchayat in Coimbatore district, the DMK won eight and the AIADMK seven. DMK councillor Kavitha was elected as the president of the town panchayat in the election held on March 4.

However, the elections for the post of Vice President was entangled in confusion after a DMK councillors vote was announced invalid. Kokilla of DMK and Kalaivani of AIADMK contested. DMK and AIADMK candidates got 7 votes each. Following this, the election officials announced that the vice-president would be elected through a draw of lots.

Protesting against this, DMK councillors got into an argument and tore the ballot papers, and created a ruckus. Following this, the election officials announced that the Vice-President's election has been postponed. Meanwhile, the indirect election to the post of vice-president of Thirumalaiyampalayam town panchayat was held Saturday afternoon under tight police security.

DMK candidate Kokila was elected as the vice-president with 8 votes.

AIADMK candidate Kalaivani lost by 7 votes. Following the victory, the DMK workers burst crackers in front of the Thirumalaiyampalayam town panchayat office and celebrated the occasion.
