The indirect elections for the post of Town Panchayat President and Vice President, was scheduled to be held on Saturday, 26th March, turned into chaos after the DMK and aiadmk members clash once again, in which DMK councillor’s husband suffered head injuries.
Coimbatore: A DMK Councillor's husband suffered a skull injury in the clash that broke out between DMK and AIADMK during the indirect elections held at Vellalore Town Panchayat on Saturday, 26th March.
A clashe broke out between DMK and AIADMK again during the election of the President, Vice-president of Vellalore town panchayat in Coimbatore, which was scheduled to be held Saturday. The police resorted to lathi-charge on those gathered there. A DMK Councillor's husband suffered skull injuries in the conflict.
In the areas where indirect elections were not held, in the just concluded Local Body elections, the elections were scheduled to be held on Saturday, 26th March, for town panchayat heads. Accordingly, arrangements were made for the elections to Vellalore Town Panchayat in Coimbatore. AIADMK won 8 seats, DMK 6 and an Independent candidate grabbed victory in one seat out of the 15 wards in Vellalore.
The election was postponed due to clashes between DMK and AIADMK councilors during the indirect elections held on March 4 and was all set to happen on 26th March at Vellalore Town Panchayat. However, both the parties also started gathering near the town panchayat office.
A clash broke out once again between the two parties and this resulted in the police resorting to lathi charge and dispersing them. Senthil Kumar, husband of DMK member Gunasundari of Vellalore 4th ward, suffered a skull injury in the clash. An ambulance was then called in, however, he refused mediacl help. Instead, he sat on the road calling out slogans against the police.
A police vehicle was attacked, which then led the police to chase everyone gathered away, and additional security was deployed. Parthiban of the DMK sustained injuries on his head and Rajendran sustained injuries on his leg in the lathi charge and was sent to the hospital.
Police is deployed in Vellalore town panchayat following a clash between the two parties ahead of the re-election.
