The industrialists here stated that the development of Podanur Railway Station in Coimbatore will be a significant step towards development of industries in city and the process should begin at the earliest.
Coimbatore: The industrialists have stated that devlopment of Podanur Railway station is important for thedevelopment of industries in Coimbatore.
The industries have opined that the development of Podanur railway station will play a very important role in the industrial development of Coimbatore in the coming years and it is necessary to start these works at the earliest.
Coimbatore is famous internationally in various industries including textiles, automobile components, casting, wet grinder, motor pumpset, engineering products etc. Apart from industry, Coimbatore district is also world-famous in various fields including education, tourism, medicine, information technology etc. Despite the claim to fame, none of the railway stations except the main railway station in Coimbatore have been upgraded to a significant extent in view of the increasing population.
Coimbatore railway station is used by 25,000 people every day. The problem of traffic congestion is increasing day by day due to the Central Railway station located in the heart of the city. Due to the increasing population, various industrial activities have started functioning more in the suburbs.
Industrial Development Projects are being taken up, especially in the surrounding areas of Podanur Railway Station including Kinathukadavu, Malumichampatti and Echanari. At present, a large number of trains from Kerala to various parts of the country are run through Podanur railway station, however, most of these trains do not stop at Podanur railway station. Therefore, in view the future industrial development, the railways should take steps to improve Podanur railway station same as the Central at the earliest, steps to stop trains at this station and introduce new trains through Podanur railway station.
Kongu Global Forum (KGF) Director, T. Nandakumar said that Podanur Railway Station has started gaining importance in the surrounding areas with the industrial development work being undertaken in Coimbatore city. In view of the increasing population, an integrated bus stand is being constructed at Vellalore near Pothanur to solve the problem of traffic congestion.
He thus wanted the railway administration to take steps to improve the Pothanur railway station at the earliest keeping in view the future industrial development.
"Since the British era, the Podanur railway station and surrounding areas have had various facilities including better infrastructure, space, signal and tele-communication training centre. Therefore, new development works can be easily undertaken at Podanur railway station."
He added that there is no doubt that Podanur railway station will play a major role in reducing congestion at Coimbatore railway station in the coming years and pave way for industrial growth reducing traffic congestion.
