A video of a sanitary supervisor, forcing one of the contract sweepers to clear the blocks in the drain without safety equipment went viral on the media, triggering concerns from various quarters. On the 19th, Subramanian, a contract sweeper was made to clean the sewer with his bare hands, at ward number 78 near IUDP Colony, in Perur Main Road, of Coimbatore Corporation. The Supervisor, Manickam had also obtained a written agreement stating Subramaniam, did the job at his own will, and was not forced.
A video of this incident shot by a person there went viral and an investigation led to the suspension of Manickam. A committee has been formed under Sathish Kumar, District Municipal Corporation Welfare Office, to probe the incident, stated the CCMC Commissioner Raja Gopal Sunkara.
