The Farmers' Association organized a conference in the city, in which the issues caused due to wild animals damaging farmlands, especially the wild boars were discussed and the association has decided to stage protest seeking permission to poach the boars.

The Tamil Nadu Farmers Association has organized an 'Anti-Wild Boar Conference' with the families of farmers from 10 districts at Mettupalayam and passed several resolutions including seeking permission for hunting down the wild boars who damage their farmlands. The tribals welcomed the farmers who participated in the conference by playing traditional musical instruments.
The conference was held under the chairmanship of Tamil Nadu Farmers Association, general secretary Venugopal, on Then Tirupathi Four Road near Mettupalayam in Coimbatore district.
Elephants, boars, peacocks continue to cause constant trouble to the farmers, damaging their lands, and crops. Thus, the farmers have demanded that the forest department needs to take action to control such damages. It was decided that the farmers will write to the forest department starting 21st March, for a month seeking permission hunt down the wild boars, that damage their farmlands, and in the case no action is taken, it is decided that a month later, in the third week of April, a protest would be held in front of forest range offices demanding permission to shoot wild boars.
The farmers union has taken a drastic decision to kill the wild boars if the forest department did not accede to their demand. The union has decided to wait for the forest department's action for three months, and if no solution is offred, the farmers will take up the task of killing the boars themselves, by July, three months from now.
Later, addressing a press conference, Venugopal, state general secretary of the Tamil Nadu Farmers' Association, said that the farmers should be allowed to shoot wild boars as the forest department was delaying the task despite obtaining legal permission to shoot them. He said the next phase of protests will be announced at a state-wide conference on July 5 to press for the killing of boars, and once the conference is over, they will meet the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and the state Forest Minister in person to apprising them about the hardships faced by the farmers.
