During a vehicle check at the Coimbatore-Walayar border, the Kerala Excise Department arrested three people who attempted to smuggle 170 kg ganja to Kerala, in a truck.
Coimbatore: The Kerala Excise Department officers arrested three people, who tried to sneak in ganja to Kerala and seized 170 kg of the cannabis from them, hidden in a truck.
Officials of the Kerala Excise Department were engaged in a vehicle check at the Walayar Checkpoint on the Coimbatore-Kerala border. A truck heading towards Kerala was stopped and searched. A total of 170 kg of ganja packs, hidden in the truck's cabin under a tarpaulin was confiscated. The three people who attempted to smuggle the ganja were held.
Naupal (33) of Parammal near Tirur Kottakkal in Malappuram district, Fazil Firose (28) of Tirur, and Shahid (27) of Palapura, tried to sneak in the contraband from TN to Kerala to retailers in Malappuram and Kozhikode districts. Following this, the authorities seized 170 kg of ganja, the truck, and arrested the three. A team led by the Walayar Excise Inspector Jayaprakash is carrying out interrogations with the trio.
