It has been found that the elephant may have been dead for more than ten days and that the elephant may have been injured in a collision with another elephant.

Coimbatore: The PCR test revealed that the elephant that died in the Coimbatore Mankarai forest has no anthrax infection.

The body of a 30-year-old male elephant was found two days ago in the Mangarai forest in Coimbatore. Subsequently, a team of veterinarians conducted an inspection there.

The appearance of worms in the elephant's abdomen then raised suspicions of an anthrax-like infection. Following this, samples of the dead elephant were sent to the Chennai Veterinary University for PCR examination.

The results of that study were released yesterday evening. It was confirmed that the dead elephant had no anthrax infection. Veterinarians conducted an autopsy on the elephant this morning.

It was then discovered that the elephant may have been dead for more than ten days, and that the elephant may have been severely injured in a fight with another elephant due to severe injuries at various places on its body, and thus may have died.

The body of the elephant was subsequently buried in the same forest with the help of JCB machines
