Coimbatore: The Polysomnography Testing, a diagnosis done for obstructive Sleep Apnoe(snoring), has begun at the CMC, Coimbatore Medical College, at the cost of Rs.15 lakh funded by the Philanthropist Activity of Coimbatore Rotary Central Trust
Polysomnography a test used to diagnose Obstructive Sleep Apnoea(snoring problem) has started functioning at Coimbatore Medical College Hospital. This is the first of its kind in government hospitals in Tamil Nadu next to Chennai.
It has been established at the cost of 15 lakhs and it was funded by the Philanthropist activity of Coimbatore Rotary Central Trust. Dean Dr. Nirmala explained that “This test has been initiated in Coimbatore Medical College Hospital under the department of respiratory medicine." Generally, obese people snoring trouble during Sleep which leads to Apnoea(sudden stopping of breathing for 10 sec) and it repeats multiple times during the whole night.
This leads to the person developing high blood pressure, heart problems, and other sleep disturbances. Also, these patients will have excessive daytime sleepiness and it will become difficult for them to do routine activities. This may also lead to accidents if such patients drive a vehicle. She insisted that these patients should properly check their problems and take the necessary treatment. This facility is supervised by respiratory medicine department head Dr. Keerthivasan, Dr.Vani, Dr.Arunchander.
