The Supreme Court Judge, Nagarathna was the Chief Guest at the 33rd Convocation held in Avinashilingam University, and conferred degrees on students, and scholars.
Coimbatore: The Supreme court Justice, Nagarathna participated as the Chief Guest at the convocation held in Avinashilingam University in Coimbatore.
"It is important that women have sound knowledge about their safety, just as the boys are taught to respect women", pointed out the Supreme Court Judge, Nagarathna, at the 33rd Convocation held at Avinashilingam University.
Justice Nagarathna, the Chief Guest, conferred the degrees on the students. 85 girls from all the departments were awarded medals.
72 girls were awarded Ph.D. degrees and 22 girls were awarded M.Phil. 46 girls were awarded Post Graduate Degree and 2047 girls were awarded Undergraduate Degree.
Speaking on the occasion, Justice Nagarathna of the Supreme Court said that she was proud to have come to Coimbatore and the city plays an important role in the development of Tamil Nadu.
Stating that Education is essential for the sustainable development of the country, she said that the Universities for women are the foundation for social development and it is a matter of pride that so many women are getting degrees in one place.
"Our society grows only through education. Of yore, parents taught their children, and now, the tables have turned where education has made the children Teachers. It is as important for women to be aware of their safety as it is to teach and nurture men to respect them."
